IBM Accessibility Checker WCAG 2.1
This test checks to make sure the web site doesn't violate the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. These guidelines have been established to ensure visitors with disabilities can view and understand the web sites they visit.
The W3C Markup Validation Service
W3C stands for World Wide Web Validation Service. This is the group that defines exactly how websites are supposed to work. This test ensures the website code is technically and structural correct.
Protocols
This test verifies that your website hosting service is following best practices to insure your site is secure and accessible.
  • Check to see if its uses the most current Hypertext Transport Protocol.

  • Check to see if the site uses a signed secure certificate.

  • Check to see if the site is using a Organization Validated certificate.

  • Check to see if an attempt to access the site with an insecure URL will redirect to the secure https URL.

  • Check to see if your site is accessible from an IPv6 network address. This is the new Internet protocol that allows for more addresses.

  • Performance
    This number varies quite a bit depending on how and when the audit is run. In general this should be mostly above 90%. Sometimes a page may contain content or applications that makes this unachievable. In this case it should be above 80%. In no case should a landing page or your home page be below 90%. If that is the case make the user click a link to get to the more complicated content.

  • Accessibility
    If this value is not 100%, you may be opening your self up for a lawsuit because your site is not ADA compliant. In addition you may be missing some potential visitors. WARNING, this is not the only criteria that will make a web site ADA compliant but if it doesn't pass this test it's definitely not compliant. A score below 100% is unacceptable.

  • Best Practices
    If this value is not 100% your site has technical problems that can make it insecure and unreadable. In most cases a score below 100% is unacceptable. The contact page is only 93% because of problems in the embedded Google map.

  • SEO
    If this value is not 100% you are not getting the best possible search engine results. Your site may even be index improperly preventing you from getting the best visitors. A score below 100% is unacceptable. The contact page is only 99% because of problems in the embedded Google map.

  • WCAG 2.1
    This is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Passing this increases the likelihood that people with disabilities will NOT have problems viewing and understanding your web site. It will also decrease the likelihood that a lawsuit will be brought against your company for having an inaccessible web site.   

  • W3C Valid
    If this value is not 100% your site is coded wrong from a technical point of view. Your site may not render properly on some modern browsers. The tools used by handicapped visitors may fail. This is the test that insures your site is technically valid with web standard. A score below 100% is unacceptable.

  • Protocols
    If this value is not 100% your site is not using the best possible hosting environment. A score under 100% may mean you need to find a different hosting provider or have them reconfigure your site.
Caveat: even though we say some audits must be 100%, there are rare cases when a complicated application based page will not pass the test. In this case, it's important that you understand why it's happening and try to fix it. In the case of this site, some pages include third party JavaScript with that generate warnings. The code they provide has several technical problems but it will still work. If you are working with us, we know how to make a YouTube video pass the test.
